“COLITA. JACK OF ALL TRADES”
Colita (Isabel Steva) was one of Catalonia’s most prolific photographers. A tireless worker, student, friend and professional colleague of Xavier Miserachs, Oriol Maspons, Leopoldo Pomés and Francesc Català-Roca, Colita crafted an archive with thousands of vastly diverse images, the result of the boundless curiosity that always characterized her.
Throughout her career, she produced nearly 60 exhibitions and more than 77 publications, in addition to her work as a photojournalist. She received important awards and recognitions, including the Medal for Artistic Merit from the City Council of Barcelona, the Sant Jordi Cross, the Spanish National Photography Award and the Gold Medal for Fine Arts, and her body of work forms part of public and private collections.
“Colita. Jack of All Trades”, a title that the photographer herself expressly chose for this occasion, showcases some of her most iconic images. Her beloved Barcelona, the Spanish Transition to Democracy, gypsies, flamenco, cinema, the Nova Cançó Catalan music movement and more, all form part of the journey through the work of an artist who embodied humour, feminism and freedom.
