FRANCESC ROIG VENTURA AND ROIG JUNYENT FAMILY

SUMMER HOLIDAY ALBUM (1942-1958)

This exhibition is based on recovering local visual heritage through the photo albums of the Roig family, the textile magnates from Terrassa who summered in Llafranc during the 1940s. They started building a chalet in the area of Pinell, under the Sant Sebastià lighthouse in 1943.

These albums show the summertime activities of a well-to-do family as well as the excursions, meals and festivals shared alongside the fishermen of Llafranc and Calella, other locals and the few tourists who came in summer to enjoy the still virgin beaches.

If we think about the scarce number of photos from the 1940s due to the precarious living situations in the period after the Spanish Civil War and the lack of available photographic material, this collection becomes even more fascinating and invaluable.
