Photography has not been at its peak for years now. It has already been said many times, but we insist on repeating it yet again: the homogenisation of the mass media has had a negative influence on the promotion of photographic works. Moreover, the emerging information and communication technologies regarded as the new channels of dissemination have not fulfilled their objectives as of yet.
Nevertheless, more and more photographers appear and more works that deserve to be promoted emerge. What’s more, excellent archives have been rediscovered. All these are part of the enormous national photo production sector and they definitely should be exhibited.
The aim of the Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs is to create a space where these works can be shown, where people can learn about the leading figures in national photography and where little-known or unpublished projects can be seen. Here both the well-established photographers as well as the very young ones, who are trying to make their way to the increasingly unstable profession, can promote their visions of reality.
We would like to give thanks to the photographers, the sponsors, the collaborators, the volunteers and all those who helped us make the Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs reach the ninth edition as a well-established photographic event and a point of reference.
