We have reached the 12th edition of the Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs with the same spirit and commitment with which we celebrated the first homage to the photographer in 1999. Over nearly the last 24 years, we have worked with the conviction of showcasing photography as an artistic expression. Portraying the world through the privileged gaze of photographers has been the stimulus to keep us moving forward. We are also pleased to see our supporters grow at a time in which technological developments have led to an avalanche of images that demand visual education and constant criteria to discern the best.
In this edition, we celebrate life with a retrospective of the French humanist photographer Sabine Weiss; we commemorate the centennial of the birth of Francesc Català-Roca, the master among masters; we pay tribute to Ferran Freixa, an essential figure in the history of photography in Catalonia; we go back to the Palafrugell of the 1960s and its coves under the intelligent gaze of Xavier Miserachs, and we provide an essential reflection on war and its consequences with selections from artists including Antoni Campañà, Anna Surinyach and Martí Albesa, who are separated from each other in time yet bound together by a tragically current issue.
