XIII Edition

In 1999 we celebrated the first Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs in memory of the beloved photographer. Today, 25 years later, we are launching the 13th Biennal to continue showcasing photography and creating a space where we can share, enjoy and discover images by renowned Spanish and international artists and young documentary photographers as well as never before seen archives that hold great cultural and artistic value.

Eleven exhibitions and a variety of complementary and participatory activities spread across different spaces throughout the municipality, including some truly iconic venues, form the programme for this event. “El desig de llibertat” (The desire for freedom), by Lee Miller, delves into the fascinating life of an essential figure in photography while “Colita. Para un roto y para un descosido” (Colita. Jack of all trades) pays homage to a versatile artist who always acted with complete freedom no matter what the circumstances. Through “La meva Mediterrània. Toni Catany – Josep Pla” (My Mediterranean. Toni Catany – Josep Pla), we traverse the landscape and the culture of our sea as filtered through the photographer’s creativity and the author’s literary mastery. In “La Chanca en color (1965-1968)” (La Chanca in colour. 1965-1968), Carlos Pérez Siquier reveals a pioneering and innovative take on this neighbourhood in the city of Almería. “Petites lectures” (Short reads) allows us to discover never before seen images by Jacques Léonard that reveal the photographer’s deeply humanistic outlook, while the pages of the “Àlbum d’estiueig (1942-1958)” (Summer Holiday Album. 1942-1958) by Francesc Roig Ventura and the Roig Junyent family let us relive the time spent by the first summer vacationers in Llafranc and Calella. In “Paredadors i pedrers, en perill d’extinció…” (Dry-stone walling and stone masonry, an art on the brink of extinction), Anna Lofi strongly advocates for this thousand-year-old tradition in Menorca, while in “Blueism. Blau endins…” (Blueism. Blue inside…) Marta Vergonyós Cabratosa reveals her relationship with the landscape and memory through more traditional photographic techniques.
