“TREBALLADORS DE LA MAR”
(Seafarers)

The climate crisis sits atop all our agendas today, yet the work of the fishermen in the Mediterranean has long since suffered its consequences. The harsh work conditions, the fishing restrictions, and the falling prices linked to scarcer and more unpredictable hauls are just some of the reasons for the precarious state of the sector and the lack of young professionals entering the trade.

Against this backdrop, maintaining the delicate balance between tradition, economic sustainability and respect for the environment is a key challenge for this profession to survive.

This documentary exhibition features photos of fishermen from different towns along the Costa Brava taken between 2018 and 2022. This highly personal photographic perspective aims to shine a light on the people behind one of the most important and least documented trades and ways of living in Catalonia.
