2004
III Edition
For the third time, we are hosting the Biennal de Fotografia Xavier Miserachs with the goal of honouring Xavier as a friend and photographer and paying homage to him through the art that was his life’s passion. From Xavier the photographer, we learned, among many other aspects, the concrete subtleties of such abstract concepts including point of view, ironic gaze, meaningful detail, portrait of a heartbeat… and we wanted, once again, to remember Xavier the friend, immersed in his own unique artistic and sentimental geography.
On this occasion, we are recommending a photo tour through eleven exhibitions, installed in different public and private rooms in Palafrugell, where we display the work of photographers who have illuminated our history and the history of others who bring us closer to current more distant realities. We are adding two new exhibition halls to this route offered by the Fundació Vila Casas in the recently opened Can Mario Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition offers a wide array of options. From the most local images, like “Alcorisa” by Santos Montes, “Begur. Memòria gràfica” (Begur. Visual Memoir) by Josep Carreras, “Retrats palafrugellencs”(Palafrugell Portraits) by Lluís Gich and “L’uII discret” (The Discreet Eye) by Enrique Sabater, to the exhibitions of three excellent representatives of a key generation for the history of Catalan photography, the so-called new vanguard: “Barri Xino” (Red Light District) by Joan Colom, “Gauche Divine” by Oriol Maspons and “Barcelona Blanc i Negre” (Barcelona in Black and White) by Xavier Miserachs. We can also see an example of the important work that Photographic Social Vision carries out. This non-profit foundation manages the production of photojournalist and multimedia reports striving to raise awareness in society about situations of inequality and social exclusion while showcasing the work carried out by direct aid entities. Thanks to their collaboration, we will be hosting the exhibitions entitled “EXIT” by Tomàs Abella, “Ulls del Sàhara” (Eyes of the Sahara) by Elisenda Pons and “Vides en positiu” (Live Positively) international photography collective at the Bòbila Vella.
We would like to thank the Palafrugell City Hall and the other collaborators who have made it possible to showcase the work of these photographers. With their dedication to capturing an instant in time, their work offers us an image to remember.
