“ELS CASANOVAS. NISSAGA DE FOTÒGRAFS”
(The Casanovas. A Lineage of Photographers)
Lluís Casanovas Marquès (Palafrugell, 1857 – ca. 1936) was the pioneer of a series of photographers who ceaselessly portrayed numerous generations of families in Palafrugell. All of them were portrait artists, but they were also the photographers behind several local news stories.
The founder’s craft was continued by his children Ling Casanovas Lallement (1891-1954) and Aura (1893-1988), dedicated exclusively to coloring the images, by his grandson Lluís Casanovas Sierra (1919-2011) and by his great-grandson Lluís Casanovas Martínez (1950).
This exhibition is the result of exhaustive research carried out in the Casanovas family archive. The collaboration of the Municipal Archive, which preserves a good part of their legacy, and above all of Palafrugell’s residents, who have contributed a vast number of photographs of family members and ancestors, has made it possible to recover a good part of more than a century’s worth of our personal and collective memory. The exhibition is on display in the Municipal Theatre, in the shop windows of numerous establishments that form part of the Oohx!gen Association and the Municipal Butcher’s Market.
