LLUÍS CATALÀ

(Palafrugell, 1978)

“PALA”

A freelance photographer, Lluís Català combines commercial work with reports on topics of social interest topics. He has worked for a wide variety of media, such as Enderrock, La Vanguardia and the Diari de Girona, and has taken the cover photos of several musical groups.

“Pala” is the name many locals use to refer to Palafrugell. The photographer adopted the word as the name for a mural made up of 320 portraits of people from a wide array of groups, profiles and origins who reside in the town. As a continuation of the work started in 2020 and presented in the 11th Xavier Miserachs Biennial in which Català depicted a series of local characters, the artist has relaunched this project to get closer to the town’s resident, to make them the central focus and to strengthen their sense of belonging to a community.
